Still alive, Big Bill whitewashes the Blue Sox

BASEBALL. The B45 Division Finals, series 4 of 7 continued Thursday night (Sept. 15) in Coaticook as Big Bill faced elimination against the Blue Sox, who have an unblemished record of 7 wins in as many games in the 2022 playoffs. The result was very similar to last game , however, it was Big Bill’s Gunners who got the better of the visitors as they won 3-0.

Big Bill starter Frédérick Fauteux pitched a solid performance allowing just 2 meager hits in 5 innings of work in the win where he allowed just 2 free passes. He stood out significantly in the 5thE inning, loading the bases, but 3 of his 6 strikeouts to end the threat. Only Stéphane Pouliot and Renaud Desjardins placed the ball in a safe place against him. Guillaume Beaudry came 6thE he didn’t give anything good and started 7E inning with 2 walks, giving way to Alexandre Pharand, who retired the next 3 batters to face him and collect the save.

The home team scored their first point in the 3rdE inning against losing pitcher Stéphane Pouliot. Francis Beaudoin, the author of the double to start the inning, crossed home plate on Xavier Langlois’ sacrifice ball. At 6E inning, facing reliever William Gault, Simon-Pierre Soumis drove in 2 extra runs for Big Bill, with one out.

The Blue Sox are now 3-1 in this 4-of-7 series. The fifth match is scheduled for early Saturday evening at 18:00 at the Stade des Caisses Desjardins in Thetford Mines.
