vsFor our clubs involved in European cups, it is a dream start to the group stage. While the previous seasons were really unsuccessful and the national champion will not get a direct ticket to the next Champions League at the end of this season, the Belgian representatives on the continental scene seem to be recovering. Which could allow, depending on the sequence of events, to restore this famous sesame for C1 after 2023-2024.
Before any calculation, it is necessary to enjoy the present moment above all. Because after two days of different group stages, our four clubs have yet to lose a single match (six wins and two draws). What no other European country can boast of. Not even the mighty Premier League, nor Serie A or La Liga. So the best performance for Belgium… and its European coefficient.
Perfect balance sheet for Bruges and the Union
In the Champions League, Club Brugge performed perfectly, winning against Leverkusen (1:0) and Porto (0:4). Union Saint-Gilloise, involved in the Europa League, also keeps pace with two victories: at Union Berlin (0:1) and against Malmö (3:2).
Finally, in the Conference League, La Gantoise and Anderlecht both signed 4/6. Buffalos first shared a share at Molde (0-0) before easily winning against Shamrock Rovers (3-0). The Mauves, for their part, first got past Silkeborg (1-0) before drawing with FCSB (0-0) this Thursday.
Will the Belgian clubs manage to maintain this pace over time? Elements of the response at the beginning of October, on the occasion of the third day of the group stages… With perhaps slightly tougher opponents: Atlético Madrid for Bruges, Braga for Union, West Ham for Anderlecht and Djurgarden for La Gantoise.
